Kashmir: Three Indian soldiers killed in Kupwara army camp attack

Guerrillas believed to be foreigners sneaked into an army camp in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday and killed three soldiers in an audacious pre-dawn attack that left two militants dead, officials said.

Sources said five injured soldiers have been shifted to a hospital in Srinagar.

Two terrorists were neutralised and three Army personnel lost their lives.

The operation to hunt down other terrorists is still on, PTI said.

Sources said that protests have intensified after the killing of the civilian.

In no time, crowds gathered outside the army camp shouting slogans and resorted to heavy stone throwing, the officials said. Speaking in the same vein, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi said that the repeated terrorist attacks on army camps are extremely worrying.

Security forces are engaged in an encounter and a search operation is likely to be initiated.

The garrison is around 100km from the army camp in Uri sector which came under a similar fidayeen attack on September 17 a year ago. The place where the attack took place is on the rear side of 310 Medium Artillery Unit. The number of militants involved in the attack could not be ascertained immediately. "There are more than 150 terrorists in Pakistan who are waiting to be launched in India".

"3 soldiers martyred, dreams of 3 families shattered, as we were sleeping".

Seven other soldiers were also wounded in the strike.

As per reports, three army jawans have been martyred and 5 jawans are said to be injured.
