Sony showed off some great new gameplay footage for God of War 4 during the E3 2017 press conference tonight. The boy, meanwhile, might also take a more active role than what we saw in last year's trailer, seeing as he seems more confident, defiant, and more of a "voice of reason" for his father.

Check out the trailer for yourself below, and let us know what you think. God of War will be a PS4 exclusive and will launch in early 2018.

We'll slap the trailer in here as soon as it appears on PlayStation's YouTube channel.

While the series has so far focused exclusively on Greek mythology, the new title places Kratos in a world of Norse lore and its own unique gods, monsters and colder, wintry aesthetic. The combat and gameplay mechanics look a bit different, but I trust Santa Monica will deliver on this and many other aspects.

This God of War reboot, from Sony's Santa Monica Studio, was first announced at the company's E3 press conference a year ago. No, it's not a full release date, but at least we've got an idea now. What the "World Serpent" - aka Jörmungandr - has in store for the two characters isn't entirely clear, but his connection to Ragnarok may find Kratos and his son pitted against all of Norse mythology.

Unfortunately, his iconic dual-chained blades are still lost following God of War III.

God of War PS4 is launching in early 2018.
