And first lady Melania Trump issued a statement in which she said, "As a mother, a wife, and a human being, that photo is very disturbing".

Until this week, the comedian had managed to make a living inciting career-threatening controversy, then artfully flipping it into another cheeky bit.

Jim Carrey had an added challenge for Kathy Griffin in the wake of her controversial photo shoot where she posed with a severed fake head resembling President Donald Trump.

The simmering feud between Trump and O'Donnell goes back years, and the president recently reignited the fuse with a tweet directed at the comic, and citing her call for the firing of Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, after Trump did in fact fire him. I'm a comic. I crossed the line. "I went too far", she stated.

"Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself".

It was December of past year that comedian Rosie O'Donnell found herself apologizing to first lady Melania Trump for cyber-bullying Mrs. Trump's young son, Barron. "Trump bring out the worse in us all". "I made a mistake and I was wrong".

Manchester terrorist attacker Salman Abedi asked mum for forgiveness before bombing
A British official said that Manchester police will stop sharing bombing investigation information with USA amid fury over leaks. United Kingdom police have identified 22-year-old Salman Abedi as the individual they suspect of having perpetrated the attack.

She was seen reviewing the images with photographer Tyler Shields and jokingly saying, "We have to move to Mexico today because we're going to go to prison, federal prison".

That brazen attitude accompanied numerous personal and professional spats Griffin has incited with her foul-mouth and propensity for insult.

CNN had earlier called the picture "disgusting and offensive", and said it was "evaluating" its annual New Year's Eve coverage, which Ms Griffin co-hosted for a decade with Mr Anderson Cooper. "He is looking forward to embracing somebody and something new during New Year's".

The network says it has terminated its agreement with the comedian to appear on its New Year's Eve programs. "Only thing is, if you make art, you've got to stand by it, that's it".

But Griffin turned the reprimand into a joke, nicknaming the segment "Yank-watch 2011".

Kathy Griffin was sacked from co-hosting New Year's Eve on CNN with Anderson Cooper this year, and even though they're longtime friends, Anderson is totally okay with seeing her go. "It's up to you, America".
